People in the streets. pt.2!
More than a year ago, on December 16th, I posted the following lines to my tumblr blog dealing with the protests and rediscovering the streets as a medium of making a statement:
people in the streets…
Now, as the year is coming to an end, the question I raised back then has to be answered with a clear YES! TIME Magazine’s Person of the year is The Protester. Thus, 2011 is going to be...
2012.
January: - Klagenfurt, life in a lifeless city. - Preparation for the month to come.
February: - Budapest - London - Berlin - Roberto Blanco sat one row in front of me while flying back to Klagenfurt
March: - hating Winter in Austria - Madrid until June
April: - Gran Canaria, maybe the best holiday ever: round trip around the island, sleeping on beaches, sleeping in the mountains, waking up...

Thoughts on the Occupy! Movement.
The following thoughts came to my mind after reading the tumblr post on the Occupy! movement of my friend Jürgen (which can be read here:http://weareallguilty.tumblr.com/post/13782332996/think-twice-before-occupy ).
I can understand Jürgens train of thought. Nevertheless, there are so many more factors and point, which have to be added to this when speaking about Occupy! and other social...

Homelessness = Crime in Hungary.
It’s no secret anymore that there are some things going wrong in Hungary recently. Now, from 1st of December homelessness is crime fined with tremendous amounts of money or prison if people cannot pay. If you sign the petition on the following link or not… please take a few minutes to read the following to see what’s going on there.

Ikea and the city.
Since I use this space less and less as not so much extraordinary things are happening in my life right now, I’m thinking of using it more related to urban topics than to post what’s going on in my life currently. Maybe it’s gonna be a mix of both.. let’s see.
As I read newspaper articles on how Ikea is going to built a mini city in East London, next to the Olympic Park it...

empty buildings but they keep on building...
since mid-October a huge building in Lindengasse in Vienna’s seventh district was squatted and named Epizentrum. Today the house was cleared by the police. I read about it on twitter, swung myself on the bike and went there. the owner of the buildings (BUWOG) is going to tear it down and to build new residential dwellings which are probably going to sell for a fortune since prices are rising...

October, 2011.
Now, suddenly, after weeks and weeks without an entry, I feel like writing something for this space here again. In the meantime a lot happened: I graduated in Urban Studies and can call myself Master of Arts now. I moved to Vienna and share the most beautiful flat with beloved Lisely.. Except for the construction which is going on the top floor and wakes you up at 7.30 almost every day, the...

It’s mid-September of 2011. In one week I’m going to have my thesis defence in Brussels. Its gonna be the end of 2 wonderful years of endless train and busrides, delayed flights and adventures on every corner. As i’m working on this last presentation right now while listening to some old records it makes me kinda sentimental although I know it’s the right time to end this...

Writing the abstract = an end is in sight.
Abstract: Competitiveness VS. Social Balance: Governmental Strategies fostering Gentrification in Cases in Budapest and Vienna (preliminary title).
The craving of cities for investment, capital and persisting in a global competition is what provoked Neil Smith (2002) to argue that gentrification has found its way into urban policies in the 21st century. Today, governmental strategies fostering...

VIE-update.
it seems like this space here has become more and more obsolete since i’m back in austria. the actual reason for starting this was to let people know what’s going on in my life… but since i’m in more or less regular contact with most of the people i care about it’s not really neccessary to have a space to communicate about what’s going on recently. so there...
so looking forward to holidays in august or september and the travels to italy, croatia, greece, wherever. soo needing a break from writing right now.

moving out..
so it’s july and it’s time to pack the suitcase again and leave for Vienna tomorrow. actually i’m a bit stressed right now but updating tumblr seems to be more fun than thinking about what to bring, how to bring my bike and how everything is going to work out. I plan on staying in Vienna until the beginning of august and although i’m kinda looking forward to live in there...

of cucumbers and tomatos...
are you still eating these veggies? I do… although it seems like everyone around is panic-stricken by the idea that one could somehow get infected by the EHEC germ. Again, media is blowing the whole thing up and reports of different sources for the disease every day before concrete tests are available. The fact that the cause is still not found just motivates to play CSI Tomato (or however...

these are times of changes.
if i have learned one personal thing from 2 years of almost constant travelling then it’s to listen to my inner-self. and my inner-self seems to be highly active in the last time. if citing lyrics wouldn’t be one of the lamest things on the internet (*blush*) i would now say, life’s a constant work in progress (SYG, 2006). but so it is. it’s not just that my studies are...

T - 29, or something like that
it’s been a while since the last post including any text. more than half of the madrid stay is over and it’s already time to count down the days until it’s depature day, again…. (un)fortunately. when i think of that there are just 1 1/2 weeks of lectures at university left i get a wired feeling… these are probably my last days of a 20 year lasting educational period…....
